What makes Motivent Total Health different?
At Motivent Total Health, we treat the whole person, not just symptoms. We work with you where you are, without judgment, and help you build changes into your routines in order to move toward your goals. We employ an integrated approach, because we believe that attending to both the mind and body is vital to total health. We work closely with you to make sure that your therapist and our services are the best fit for your needs as you work to achieve success at home, at work, and within your social network.
How does the treatment work?
Initially, we take a personal history, which may include information about your relationships, career, and family. We also gather information about your reasons for seeking therapy, and any stressors that may currently be present in your life. This helps us to get a better sense of who you are and how your concerns are affecting your life. Your therapist will work with you to set initial goals, and will then make recommendations related to frequency of sessions. Sessions are typically 45-50 minutes in length and typically occur once per week. The frequency of sessions may increase or decrease, depending on your needs. We believe that therapy is most effective when a supportive, nonjudgmental environment is established. In fact, research has shown that a good working relationship with one’s therapist is one of the most important factors in successful outcomes. It is our belief that treatment works by increasing insight and recognition of behavior patterns in a manner that allows you to move toward developing healthier relationships and new, more adaptive strategies for coping. Therapy is a safe place to gain skills, guidance, support and resources to achieve your treatment goals.
How long does the treatment usually take?
A few factors go into determining the length of treatment, including the presenting concerns and the goals of therapy. In the case of brief treatment, duration may be as short as three to five sessions, while longer term treatment can last several years. Deciding the length of treatment is a collaborative effort between the client and the therapist. The goal is to determine a length of treatment that feels comfortable for the client and is clinically appropriate.
How does Motivent Total Health define successful treatment?
At Motivent Total Health, we believe that treatment has been successful when clients are able to build changes into their routines to move towards their goals. Clients begin to feel more productive, more effective, and generally more satisfied with life. Additionally, when treatment in successful, clients have achieved the goal of changing the way they see world, as well as the way they see themselves in the world. Relationships are healthier, and clients feel they have made significant progress towards the goals they have set at home, at work and during leisure time.
How do I refer a loved one to Motivent Total Health?
If you notice that a loved one is experiencing helplessness, hopelessness, or difficulty maintaining their family, work, or personal responsibilities, and you think they could benefit from additional help outside of your support, it is a good idea to suggest that they see a therapist. Together you can call 773-432-6559 to consult about the situation and request an appointment.
How can families and friends make a difference in the life of someone needing treatment?
When you notice changes in your loved one’s behavior, expressing concern in a non-judgmental and gentle way can go a long way towards helping them feel seen and heard. Being the person who asks them if they have concerns about how they have been feeling or behaving may be the thing that allows them to acknowledge their discontent and seek support. It is always helpful to normalize the process of going to therapy, and empower your loved one by talking about therapy as a positive action they can take that is within their control. If you feel overwhelmed by being your loved ones primary support, be sure to engage in your own self-care by getting support from others and seeking therapy for yourself. Even if your loved one is not ready to go to treatment, remind yourself that you are planting a seed, which is also a way to make a difference.
